The Past: a story of outstanding achievements

Silesian Center for Heart Diseases in Zabrze welcomed its first patient in  1984. Since then, thousands of patients entered Center`s doors, convinced that the place has enormous potential and experience to treat them properly. Such believe one can only have when the past determines the present. The Center`s history may be short, yet fulfilled with  numerous exceptional achievements:
  • The first heart transplantation ever to be performed in Poland, 1985
  • The first intensive coronary care unit with invasive treatment opened 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to be opened in Poland. Treating acute coronary syndromes with primary angioplasty becomes a new standard (1986) Abovementioned model of acute coronary syndrome treatment, has been then remastered and introduced nationwide. Today, it is considered to be an exemplary in this part of Europe.
  • 1st successful heart and lung transplantation in Poland, 2001
  • 1st  successful lung transplantation in Poland, 2003
Our clinical, scientific and organizational activity has been noticed. Silesian Center was awarded with prestigious titles:

The medical staff of the Center, actively participates in scientific development of contemporary medicine, sharing knowledge and experience with heart care professionals. Over 600 articles have been published in national and international medical journals throughout the years. More than 750 reports were presented during  national symposiums and 450 during international meetings, and over 180 book chapters were written to various medical manuals and texbooks.
